New U.S. import rules are reshaping global postal shipments. Are you ready?

From August 29, every postal shipment to the U.S. containing “goods of commercial nature” must include at least a 6-digit HS tariff code. Without it, shipments risk getting delayed or not delivered at all.

Until recently, small postal parcels under $800 could enter the U.S. duty-free, with little paperwork. That exemption is now gone. The U.S. has changed the rules, requiring tariff codes even for low-value postal shipments containing commercial goods.

Several Designated Postal Operators (DPOs) in Europe have already suspended  shipments to the U.S. because they can’t meet these demands.

The reality is clear

Every postal shipment containing commercial goods now requires at least a 6-digit HS tariff code.

This change directly affects Designated Postal Operators who are responsible for classifying millions of these parcels daily. They now must ensure accurate and fast classification to keep international postal operations running smoothly.
